About Bryony Shearmur

Bryony Shearmur

Photography for me has always been a method of communication. A way for me to express myself and interprate my surroundings. Shooting since I was very small I have always been interested in the idea, not only of photography as documentation and image making but the idea that I could present something in a completely unique way to someone else.

I shoot everyday, and whatever the subject matter, my aim is to capture the heart of that subject. Be it a person, product, tree, flower, house, whatever it is, I want to create a unique and honest representation.

In this new world of social media I have embraced digital technology and enjoy mixing digital and analog technology  to create my own style. My formative years as a photographer were spent developing and printing my own film and I cherish any opportunity to practice this dying art.

In short, creating images is my passion and I consider it a privilege that I get do what I love on a daily basis.

Testimonials

"We had an exceptional experience working with Bryony, I had a very short window to get my 6 and 8 year old photographed for a Christmas present for my wife. She worked around our schedule and made it very convenient. When we got to her studio, she made my boys immediately comfortable. Plain and simply, she shot the best pictures we've ever had of our kids. My wife, who is a designer, thought it was astonishing work."

"As KCRW's Publicity Director for more than 20 years, I have worked with a lot of photographers. And I can say without reservation that Bryony Shearmur is simply one of the most delightful, professional, cool, calm and adaptable photographers, whose eye in unparalleled, whom I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

Bryony has shot live events featuring food demonstrations by our chef/radio host, and she captures some of the most precious moments with kids and families at these events. She puts celebrities and everyday people at ease and gets the best images of them, quickly and well. She knows how to shoot staged events from unique angles and gives us images that really convey what it looked and felt like to be there. She's flexible and creative: at the retirement dinner for KCRW's General Manager at the Rose Cafe, she had the idea to set up a "photo booth" and took many memorable images of station staff in different groupings and individually,--she truly captured the essence of all whom she photographed. I highly recommend Bryony as a person, as a photographer, as a professional and as a pleasure to be around."
